DistroKid absent from IFPI's Streaming Integrity Initiative

IFPI's Streaming Integrity Initiative lists 24 signatories including CD Baby; DistroKid — which claims to distribute roughly 40% of new music — is not listed.

DistroKid not listed among IFPI Streaming Integrity Initiative signatories; check your distributor's fraud controls

IFPI published the Streaming Integrity Initiative (SII) on 14 September 2026 and named 24 distributors and trade bodies as early signatories; the signatory list and initiative text were checked 14 September 2026. The SII sets five baseline practices — rights and KYC verification, content vetting, investigation and mitigation of suspected fraud, intelligence sharing, and continuous measurement of systems — and participation is voluntary, with no audit or penalty provisions in the published document.

DistroKid is not among the SII signatories. DistroKid’s own July 2026 press release states the company “distributes roughly 40% of all new music in the world” for over 4 million artists; those figures were taken from DistroKid’s July 2026 release (figure checked July 2026).

What this means for self-releasing artists and freelancers

  • If you upload through DistroKid, you are using a distributor that has not publicly committed to IFPI’s published SII baseline (signatory list checked 14 September 2026).
  • Ask your distributor for its published rights-verification, KYC and content-vetting processes and for evidence of routine investigations into suspected fraud.
  • Consider using a distributor that has signed the SII (for example, CD Baby appears on IFPI’s list) if you want an explicit public commitment to those baseline practices.
