Shahaf Ram describes Orange Story as a personal project created 'over the course of seven years'. He says the idea first surfaced in '2019' while living in Paris and that the film began life as the 'first episode of a 12-part series'.
Production notes
Most of the animation work was completed during the COVID pandemic. Ram reports the project reached a near‑final cut and that at one point it ran '21 minutes' before he removed 'four minutes' of animation. He also changed the lead voice cast 'four times' and ultimately recorded the final voice himself.
The film was largely made solo: Ram repeatedly returned to the material, editing, re-recording and rethinking the piece until he felt it represented his vision. The finished short is a fragment of a larger world he has been developing since Paris, left deliberately compact as a first instalment rather than a full season.
